Since 2002 Beloit College has been publishing an annual ‘Mindset List’, a crib sheet of cultural norms for each incoming freshman class. Originally intended for faculty, they were worried that professors were considered out of touch and out of date, the lists have become a part of the modern discussion of social change, generation, and the increasing pace of integration of technology into our lives. It is both fascinating and terrifying, particularly when taken across the years. From this years list:
Students entering university this year have always seen the production of hybrid cars, have never licked a postage stamp, and consider email to be the formal mode of communication.
